IRTF GSEC Research Group Meeting - 19 MAR 2002 1. Pete Dinsmore presented the agenda, which was accepted 2. IGMP Security Requirement - Haixiang He Haixiang gave the presentation, which is posted along with these minutes. - DISCUSSION - Mark Handley and Marshall Eubanks recommended that no attempt be made to bring this work into the IETF since they felt there were simpler, configuation-oriented solutions that are superior to using explicit security. After some discussion, the question was raised whether this work was promising to pursue in GSEC. A poll of meeting participants indicated that most feel that it is worthy of being pursued. The discussion concluded with consensus that MSEC, MAGMA, AAA, and other IETF WGs should be consulted towards the end of the GSEC work to determine what, if anything, should be taken to the IETF. 3. IGMP Security Architectures - Brian Weis Brian's presentation is posted with this summary 4. 802.15.3 Security Architecture - Ari Singer Ari's presentation is posted. - DISCUSSION - Mark Baugher suggested that the threats needed to be presented to understand the features in the architecture. There was some discussion about what the role of the IETF would be in this IEEE standard and Ari pointed out that some IETF group security technologies might be used. Ari suggested further discussion of this point. 5. Security Issues in PIM-SM Olivier Paridaens Olivier's presentation is posted 6. IGMP Security for V6 Networks - Gabriel Montenegro Gabriel's presentation is posted. - DISCUSSION - Because of IPv6 anycast, we expect that this work should proceed independently of the IPv4 IGMP security work. Specifically, some of the issues raised regarding the need or importance of IPv4 IGMP security probably do not apply to v6.
